726 and 761 leave for Fleetwood

Thu 17 Nov 2011

Thursday 17th November saw the departure of two more of Blackpools historic tram fleet, now taken into the care of Freinds of Fleetwood trams. First to leave was Jubilee car 761, loaded during the morning and taken to the groups temporary storage base in Fleetwood where it joined Balloon 710 which has been in outside storage, albiet under a tarpaulin, since July. The removal of 761, a little over a week after the departure of its sister 762 to Crich, ends Blackpool Transports association with the Jubilee class of tram after 32 years.

Once off-loaded, the wagon returned to Rigby Road for Balloon 726, a more recent acquisition by the Friends group, and this tram has now also joined 710 and 761 in Fleetwood. 726 last ran during 2010, and retains its blue and yellow livery for HM Coastguards.

The Friends of Fleetwood trams are still progressing their plans for a museum in Fleetwood, to display their full fleet of trams which is thought to consist of 621, 627, 641, 646, 678, 710, 726 and 761.
