As part of the on-going works associated with the relaying of the Orion Curve at Cleveleys, the road crossing at Lauderdale Avenue is currently being removed. This crossing has for long been a problem for trams as road traffic was prone to turn across it with little notice, into the path of the trams which had right of way.
Removing the crossing will also help to speed up a rather slow section of the tramway between Anchorsholme Lane and Victoria Square, in line with the aspirations of the upgraded tramway which should be in operation from 2012.
